Description
23rd printing. Quarter green cloth over brown boards, brown spine title. 21x14x3.4 cm. Lippincott. Philadelphia. 1961. 296 pp. Illustrations by Donald McKay. Near fine in a very good 22nd printing dust jacket with a little edgewear and the spine head chipped. An early reprint of this American classic of racial injustice in the 1930s deep south, with the $3.95 price on the dust jacket flap. A historical entry in the world of book bans, this title was famously banned as “immoral literature” in Virginia in 1966, and has continued to be the target of bans into the 21st century, although modern book bans focus on author’s use of racial slurs. This early reprint will be a great addition to any collection of banned books or women authors, and is a great placeholder copy for the collector on a quest for the first edition. weight: 1.2 lb.
