Description
1st Edition. Contemporary half brown morocco over marbled boards, gilt tile and Sequoia tree illustration in a gilt ruled border on the spines, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. 19.7×13 cm. Houghton Mifflin Company. Boston. 1923. vii, [3], 399 : [6], 454 pp. Fourteen full-page plates including two portrait frontispieces. “Sierra editon” volumes IX and X. Very good, spine sunned, pencil name to endpapers. These collectible volumes contain incredible insight into the mind of one of America’s early naturalists. John Muir was well known as an early supporter of natural parks who was also one of the founding members (and first president) of the Sierra Club. He is also well-known for his harmful views towards Black Americans and Native Americans and association with known white supremacists, and such views have tarnished his accomplishments.
