Illustrations in text throughout. Very good, rear inner hinge starting on volume one, very light soiling to covers, contents tight and unmarked. An history of the Civil War “Being for the most part contributions by Union and Confederate officers”. This work is based on the “Century War Series” (published in the “Century Magazine”, where Johnson was an editor). The work includes accounts from both the Union and Confederate perspectives, and it is written with a goal toward reconciliation between the soldiers by calling attention to their shared experiences.
